Advisory Managing Director
Michael is a managing director in KPMG’s Deal Advisory – Accounting Advisory Services practice. With over 16 years of financial services industry and professional services experience, Michael’s strengths are in credit loss accounting, credit process changes, technology development, and internal controls. Michael also has extensive experience in CECL and IFRS 9. Most recently, he has led projects supporting CECL implementations and buyside M&A that includes supporting Day 1 valuation of loan fair value and calculating Day 2 amortization of purchase discounts/premiums, and assisting with Day 2 integration of CECL methodology, data, and reporting.
Additionally, Michael was the lead director implementing CECL for the US entities of a large dual filing (IFRS9 / CECL) global bank and its US consumer finance subsidiary. The scope of this two year implementation included technical loan accounting topics, accounting policy review, allowance process redevelopment, internal controls, internal and external audit support, regulatory examination support, and project management.
Previously, he was the Asia Pacific lead on KPMG’s rollout of an internally developed IFRS 9 impairment system. As the ASPAC lead, Michael’s primary responsibility was to support system documentation, design, user testing, controls design, and troubleshooting implementation issues. He trained local credit risk and accounting teams to connect credit and accounting policies to process and operational practices when implementing IFRS 9.
