Nigeria: Extended deadline for filing companies income tax returns for 2022

New deadline provides a two-month and a one-month extension for companies with 31 December and 31 January account year-ends

Extended deadline for 2022

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) issued a notice [PDF 111 KB] that extends the deadline to 31 August 2022 for filing companies income tax returns and for paying the related tax liabilities for companies with returns falling due between 30 June and 31 August 2022 (inclusive).

The new deadline provides a two-month and a one-month extension for companies with 31 December and 31 January account year-ends, respectively.  Consequently, eligible companies now have until 31 August 2022 to submit their companies income tax returns and to pay the resulting tax liabilities to avoid late-filing and late-payment penalties and interest.

The extension applies to companies income tax returns only, and does not apply with regard to value added tax, withholding tax, or individual (personal) income tax returns due in June 2022.
