Operation of USMCA regarding trade in automotive goods
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) today released for publication in the Federal Register a “request for comments” concerning the operation of the agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA) with respect to automotive goods, including:
- The implementation and enforcement of the USMCA rules of origin for automotive goods
- Whether the automotive provisions of the USMCA are relevant in light of technological and production advances
Written comments are due 45 days after publication of the request for comments in the Federal Register (scheduled to be February 10, 2022).

Background
The USTR must conduct a review of trade in automotive goods under the USMCA and submit a report to the Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee no later than July 1, 2022.
