Single-use plastics, lightweight plastic bags prohibited
Measures transposing requirements under an EU directive—Directive (EU) 2019/904—prohibit the use of certain single-use plastic products and implement certain recycling requirements.
The measures have different effective dates (some are already effective) and prohibit:
- Certain single-use plastic products (including forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks, plates, and products made from oxo-degradable plastic)
- Certain lightweight plastic carrier bags
Other products (including plastic drink bottles) must inform consumers of the appropriate waste management options as well as the presence of plastics in the product, among other information.
