Changes to programs intended to provide financial support

Certain businesses and individuals may benefit from recent changes to some programs that are intended to provide financial support to those economically affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Department of Finance recently announced that it intends to temporarily expand the “local lockdown program” to include employers subject to capacity-limiting restrictions of 50% or more and to reduce the revenue decline threshold requirement.

In addition, Finance plans to temporarily expand the Canada “worker lockdown benefit” to include workers in provinces or territories that have introduced similar capacity-limiting restrictions.

The updated regulations to reflect these changes will apply from 19 December 2021 to 12 February 2022.
