Ireland: Changes to local property tax
Changes to local property tax regime are expected to provide revenue and funding for local authorities
Changes to local property tax regime
The Finance (Local Property Tax) (Amendment) Act 2021 (enacted 22 July 2021) includes changes to the local property tax regime.
One change is that certain previously tax-exempt or tax-excluded properties will now be subject to the local property tax.
In general, it is expected that many taxpayers already paying local property tax will not experience any change in their liability as a result of the new measures, but certain taxpayers will encounter a decrease in their local property tax liability.
The increased local property tax measures are expected to provide revenue and funding for local authorities to support regional projects and initiatives.
