The 2021 mid-year budget review includes the following tax-related actions.

  • The Revenue Assurance and Compliance Enforcement (RACE) initiative is expected to be launched in August 2021, and to complement the efforts of the Ghana Revenue Authority in enforcing compliance and eliminating “revenue leakage.” With implementation of this initiative, there is expected to be an increase in the number of tax audits conducted.
  • Ghana Revenue Authority is to launch an e-commerce platform in the third quarter of 2021 to facilitate the registration of individuals and businesses in the e-commence sector. The registration of those engaged in e-commerce will broaden the scope of taxation of the digital economy (including online gambling) and thus is expected to augment tax revenue collection.
  • The Ghana Revenue Authority is to activate a tax prosecution unit and thus enhance tax compliance.
  • The use of the Ghana.Gov will be extended to all ministries and departments by December 2021. This initiative is expected to make it easier to make tax payments and also to reduce the cost of collecting these payments.
