After over 70 years of publication by bp, the new custodian of The Statistical Review of World Energy is to be the Energy Institute (EI), the chartered professional membership body for people who work in energy. As the EI’s new co-sponsor, KPMG has committed funding and sector expertise, to support the ongoing production of the publication which is the go-to source of data about energy trends globally.

Responding to the announcement, which was made as International Energy Week opened in London, Simon Virley CB FEI, Vice Chair and Head of Energy and Natural Resources at KPMG in the UK, said:

The Statistical Review of World Energy has been published by bp since 1952 and provides a comprehensive view of the world’s energy trends. In a time when the challenges and uncertainties facing our global energy system are at a peak, understanding the direction we are moving in is invaluable to businesses across the UK and Globally.

“The 2022 report demonstrated the continuing importance of energy security and affordability as we move forward in the Energy Transition. The data included in it plays a critical role in helping businesses in the Energy Sector and more broadly respond effectively to the challenges and uncertainties facing them.

“Across our global energy teams, we are proud that KPMG will be supporting the production of the Statistical Review of World Energy which will be moving to the Energy Institute from this year onwards.”
