KPMG UK is hosting a roundtable bringing together the world’s leading tech and healthcare innovators to discuss how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve patient outcome
For the last decade AI and machine learning (ML) have provided insight and predictions to help practitioners assess risk and diagnose and treat patients earlier on in their care pathway.
The panel includes Johan Ordish, Head of Software and AI from the United Kingdom’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA); Bakul Patel, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Chief Digital Health Officer, and Marc Lamoureux of Health Canada – who have jointly identified 10 guiding principles that can inform the development of Good Machine Learning Practice (GMLP).
These guiding principles which help promote safe, effective, and high-quality medical devices that use AI and ML will form the basis of the panel discussion.
Completing the panel are Aris Tzavaras, Head of AI at British Standards Institution (BSI), and from the private sector, Meriem Sefta, Chief Data & Clinical Solutions Officer at medical AI company, Owkin and Mahendran Ravichandran, Associate Director, Digital Therapeutics at AbbVie, an American biopharmaceutical company.
Chairing the roundtable is Anusha Foy, Associate Partner and head of KPMG UK’s Life Sciences Regulatory Solutions Practice. She said: “Bringing together this group of talented experts from across the globe is truly exciting. Developments in AI over the last decade have revolutionised the way we all interact with businesses, social media, and advertising. Translating AI to a healthcare setting to improve patient outcomes is the new frontier of healthcare innovation with wide-ranging implications for patients, regulators, payers, and life science businesses.
“Pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic companies have an opportunity to formulate an AI strategy, embrace new AI technology and innovation within their product development plans and discuss their plans with regulators and payers to ensure they are at the forefront of innovative product development.”
