KPMG Law hires partner Richard Needham into International Business Reorganisation team

KPMG Law in the UK has announced the appointment of Richard Needham as a partner to further bolster its specialist International Business Reorganisation (IBR) team in London.

In his new role, Needham will advise clients on the planning and implementation of complex cross-border business reorganisations. The team advises on activity in connection with large scale M&A projects (integration and separation), group redesign, corporate simplification and other group reorganisation activity driven by factors such as regulatory, supply chain and macro-economic change.

Richard arrives at KPMG at a time when businesses are looking to expand their geographical footprint post-pandemic and also facing a reshaping of the global tax systems, all of which continue to drive business reorganisation activity.

Needham joins the firm after 15 years with Baker McKenzie and periods working in Australia and the US. He has previously advised a broad range of clients, including private equity sponsors and corporates across a range of sectors, including industrials, technology and media, infrastructure, and life sciences.

Nick Roome, head of KPMG Law in the UK, said: “Richard’s appointment couldn’t be timelier as many of our clients redesign various aspects of their business to tackle challenges and opportunities. Our International Business Reorganisation specialists combine deep and specialist legal knowledge with the expertise we have from across our firm, from tax and consulting to deal advisory, to provide clients with world-class solutions to their business objectives.

This is an increasingly specialised area which requires global reach and expertise, and Richard brings a wealth of experience in that. Richard’s appointment adds further depth to our practice – his specialist focus and global expertise are an exciting proposition for our clients. We’re thrilled to have a legal mind of his calibre on board and his forward-thinking mindset will be critical as we look to continue investing in the team.”

Commenting on his appointment, Richard Needham said: “KPMG Law offers one of the most exciting opportunities to work in a fully-integrated advisory business, bringing together the best expertise and advice possible. I’m joining an ambitious practice that is committed to helping leadership teams tackle the challenges of international growth and make the most of the opportunities that the economy now has to offer.
