KPMG has appointed Tim Sarson as its new UK head of tax policy, at a time of significant ongoing tax reform both globally and in the UK.

Tim, who has been at the business advisory firm since 2008, moves into the role alongside his position as a value chain management partner and has over 20 years’ experience advising businesses on international tax.

He succeeds Melissa Geiger who is taking on a global tax role as head of strategic corporates.

Tim will be supported by technical policy director Sharon Baynham while KPMG plans to quickly grow the team further and is actively recruiting.

The team interprets UK and global tax developments for clients, coordinates KPMG UK’s policy discussions with government departments, and communicates KPMG’s views on the big tax stories of the day and their impact on UK businesses.

Commenting on his appointment, Tim said: “There will be plenty of change ahead for the tax landscape as the policy focus turns to reenergising the economy and pushing through global tax reform. Businesses will need support in interpreting what this means for them and the focus for my team and I will be guiding firms through what should be an encouraging, albeit challenging, period.

“We’re intent on expanding the team as quickly as possible as the bandwidth needed to provide the right level of support is only going to increase. I’m excited by that, and know the increasing depth of expertise we have at our disposal is going to be a vital tool for our clients as they navigate through the next few years.”

Vicki Heard, head of tax and legal services at KPMG UK, said: “Tim brings a wealth of experience to this role, having already been heavily involved in shaping our position on both UK tax policy and Brexit, and disseminating expert guidance to businesses. Alongside Sharon, I can’t think of a better duo to continue and build on the work done by Melissa to ensure KPMG is at the forefront of interpreting and advising on UK tax policy.”
