Richard has 25 years of experience at KPMG, in the UK, Hong Kong (1995-1999) and Japan (1999-2006) and became a partner in 1999. As a partner at KPMG, he has led a range of significant audit and advisory engagements in the financial sector. He is currently UK Head of Capital Markets, and leads the relationships for some of KPMG’s most valued global advisory clients. During the credit crisis, Richard worked with a number of troubled UK and European financial institutions as they attempt to re-evaluate and restructure their balance sheets, revise business plans, and seek to understand and benefit from the various government initiatives to rescue the industry including State Aid. He has also worked with his clients as they reconsider their businesses in the face of a rapidly changing regulatory environment, and its effect on strategy, corporate governance, operating models, capital and liquidity. Richard has also led a range of buy and sell side projects for both financial institutions and private equity. This work has encompassed commercial, strategic, financial, regulatory and post acquisition considerations across the industry and in a very wide range of geographic locations. Richard is European Lead Partner for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and globally Royal Bank of Scotland’s CIB business. He has also worked closely over the years with Lloyds Bank, Northern Rock (post-nationalisation), GE Capital, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and Deutsche among others.
