Healthcare responses to Covid-19

The Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia and KPMG Healthcare Advisory are jointly hosting a series of six webinars to discuss the current response to Covid-19 and how to capitalize on the lessons learnt so far.

This webinar explores the interim guidelines that have been issued and used effectively for the treatment of Covid-19, along with and expert review of these guidelines and sharing of best practices to date. The speaker was Dr Matteo Bassetti, Head of Infectious Diseases, Clinic of the San Martino-IST University Hospital in Genoa and Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Genoa.

Integrated people-centered health services means putting people and communities, not diseases, at the center of health systems, and empowering people to take charge of their own health rather than being passive recipients of services. Evidence shows that health systems oriented around the needs of people and communities are more effective, cost less, improve health literacy and patient engagement, and are better prepared to respond to health crises. In this webinar, we showcased the impact of adopting integrated people-centered services, on a system and individual level, highlighting examples and shedding light on the importance of an integrated people-centered system in a time of crisis.

The pandemic forced an accelerated shift to virtual platforms across different sectors. What healthcare systems were able to achieve in weeks, was not possible for years in terms of digital acceleration and adoption. Digital became the only front door to healthcare, at both the provider and patient level. Physicians had to accept it to ensure the sustainability of care and patients found comfort in the speed of access to healthcare professionals, testing and follow through cases in fearful times. In this webinar, we highlighted the impact of virtual care on healthcare systems, with emphasis on providers. We will also discuss the optimal ways to make virtual care scalable, sustainable and efficient.
