Tech For Peace Award promotes technology for a better..

Official presentation took place at Web Summit

1000

The Tech For Peace Award was presented during Web Summit's 2nd day, to the Web Summit’s community, in two moments, in which the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, and the Founder of Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave, signed the Tech for Peace Award's book of honor, also signed by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. The ceremony was also attended by Vitor Ribeirinho and Nasser Sattar, both representing KPMG Portugal, João Borga (Startup Portugal’s Director) and Nuno Olim Marote (Give Peace a Voice's Founder and also one of KPMG's Alumni).

Give Peace a Voice and KPMG Portugal, in partnership with Startup Portugal, have teamed up to create the Tech For Peace Award, which aims to encourage and recognize technology that helps promoting peace or contributes, significantly, to build a better world. The Tech For Peace Award is an innovative award, focused on the national ecosystem, but also open to startups and companies from all around the world.

The Tech For Peace Award trophy will be authored by Joana Vasconcelos, the first woman and youngest artist ever to exhibit at the Palace of Versailles, setting the record for visitors for the last 50 years at that mythical venue, with 1.6 million visitors in just three months.

Nuno Olim Marote, founder of Give Peace a Voice

"The Tech for Peace Award was designed to identify, recognize and support the best technology-based ‘business projects’ that create real value for a better world. This initiative fits in with Give Peace a Voice’s global strategy of promoting peace through all the necessary (artistic) means and proving that peace is undoubtedly a profitable and sustainable business (in the sense of creating true value and having a positive impact)."

Sikander Sattar, Chairman of KPMG Portugal

"At KPMG, we recognize sustainability and social responsibility as continuity pillars for our business and the planet's future. We are committed, every day, to contribute for a better world, working with our employees and Alumni, clients and associates. That is why we join this initiative with great enthusiasm, further reinforced by the fact that its mentor is one of KPMG's Alumni."

João Borga, Startup Portugal’s Director

"Startups’ founders are dedicated to solving major problems that help society grow. Preserving peace is undoubtedly one of the global areas where this community can and must develop solutions. This award recognizes solutions designed to support all those concerned with peace around the world, in its various aspects."

The first Tech For Peace Award winner will be announced next year, at Web Summit, in Lisbon.
