Otago has been named as one of the United Nation’s Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) for Sustainability. Otago Polytechnic pushed for the accreditation, as they have embedded sustainability and its values into their curriculum. Other groups helped such as secondary schools, mayors from the region, the University of Otago and Ngāi Tahu as well as the local councils. The new RCE-Otago body will work to advance the sustainability goals of the United Nation within the region.
