Danone has asked for industry collaboration and is also encouraging FMCG businesses globally to become certified B Corporations in order to regain consumer trust and to face the challenge of creating a sustainable food system. Regional Vice President for UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Ireland spoke at an event in front of 500 other business leaders and reported that although many had said they were committed to the cause 10 years ago at the same event, not enough progress had been made since which was draining the trust of consumers. He went on to state that instead of acting competitively with each other, the focus needs to be placed on what things the industries can face together and overcome. Certified B Corporations are those which meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability. Danone aims to be the first multination corporation to become a certified B corp.
