​While the role of digital platforms in our social and economic lives still keeps growing under the lead of the ‘BigTech’ companies, so does the scrutiny from regulators and law-makers across the world on their conduct, impact and power.

As part of the Digital Single Market initiative, in December 2020 the EC put forward a proposal to address multiple possible solutions for issues related to their conduct, impact and power: the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA), together forming the "Digital Services Act package". This proposal has followed a series of investigations (both inside and outside of the EU) into the competitive practices of BigTech platforms and their influence on the public debate.
