The path to net zero, energy-security risks, and the closure of the Groningen gas field are some of the major challenges faced by energy policy makers in the Netherlands, which paint the backdrop to the forthcoming changes to the Mining Act.

The amendments to the legislation aim to strengthen the governance surrounding decommissioning of mining infrastructure, and promote investment in existing and new gas assets. In the attached article we explore the impacts of the amendments and also reflect on how existing infrastructure can play a role in the energy transition.
