The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service Extends Deadline for Filing of Annual Tax Returns to 15 February 2024

The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has extended the deadline for filing employers' annual tax returns to 15 February 2024, providing two additional weeks beyond the statutory deadline of 31 January 2024. This extension is a concession to grant taxpayers time to conclude their annual filing.

Commentary

The AIRS' decision to extend the filing deadline is commendable as it shows the willingness on the part of government to proactively respond to changing circumstance in the economy.. It is important to emphasize that this extension only covers returns due to the AIRS, and no further extension will be granted for the year.

We advise that those who are yet to initiate the filing process take advantage of the extension period. This will allow them ample time to collate and submit all required documents, thereby avoiding penalty for non-compliance.
