Akinyemi is Partner, Financial Services Industry, Audit Division, KPMG Nigeria and has garnered 21 years of professional experience providing assurance, audit and other audit-related and advisory services. His experience cut across diverse industries and sectors of the economy including the public domain. Akinyemi has demonstrated his expertise on various clients’ engagement, delivering the highest value expected with leading practices.

Akinyemi has acted in the capacity of a partner and director on a number of audits, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) related assignments (conversion and implementation support) and other accounting support engagements. He has also been involved in a number of due diligence reviews, financial reporting, account reconciliation and attest engagements.

In the course of his career life, Akinyemi left KPMG to serve as the Commissioner, Ministry of Finance in Lagos State and also served as the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget between 2015 and 2019, before rejoining the professional practice in 2020.

Akinyemi’s industry focus cover the financial services industry value-chain including banking, insurance, capital markets, discount houses, pension funds, investment vehicles, etc as well as the industry regulators. He has developed deep insights in advising our local and multinational clients, helping meet their audit reporting timelines.

Some of Akinyemi’s project experience has also covered various accounting support to banks and non-bank financial institutions, design, implementation and review of internal control systems, process review and documentation in banks, treasury and foreign operations risk management and training. His responsibilities in various IFRS projects have included financial statement conversion and implementation support (design and implementation) as well as impact assessment.

Akinyemi project-managed various assignments with respect to the diagnostic review carried out on some mid-sized Nigerian banks, identified and considered by the CBN to be in “grave financial situation”. The reviews was done to determine the actual position of the banks vis-à-vis the status of risk assets and issues bordering on corporate governance. Akinyemi was also involved with the review of prudential guidelines for the banks in the recent reforms of the banking sector.
