Scrapping luxury tax a relief for retailers, say experts

Soh Lian Seng, Head of Tax at KPMG in Malaysia, noted that the government’s decision to shelve the standalone High-Value Goods Tax (HVGT) and instead expand the Sales and Service Tax (SST) offers a more practical approach that eases compliance while still targeting luxury consumption. He added that this shift could influence consumer behavior, particularly among price-sensitive buyers.
