Impact on the costs of doing business

Corruption hinders development, drives away investment and compromises the effectiveness of aid to the poor due to the resources wasted, which in turn could lead to higher rates of health and social problems.

According to Tan Kim Chuan, Head of Forensic, KPMG in Malaysia, "Continued corrupt practices distort the actual costs of doing business that inevitably stifles growth and broader economic developments.” On a positive note, he says there is growing awareness by governments worldwide that corruption is a global problem.
