Budget 2023: Advancing Sustainability

Budget 2023, amounting to RM372.3 billion, was tabled by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz at 4 pm last Friday, 7 October.
Sustainability was certainly a key focus in the proposals, with Carbon Tax introduced to drive the ESG agenda. “Already introduced in various developed countries, the Carbon Tax will serve as a new source of government revenue and is certainly a step in the right direction to assist our nation in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050,” said Soh Lian Seng, KPMG in Malaysia’s Head of Tax.
