Datuk Johan Idris is presently the Chairman (Non-Executive) of KPMG in Malaysia. He holds the position as KPMG in Malaysia, Managing Partner (from 2014 till 2024), during his tenure as Managing Partner, he was a Board member of KPMG ASPAC and KPMG ASPAC Investment, as well as a Council Member of KPMG International.
He served as the President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) for the year 2013–2015 and was on the MIA panel for audit review license. He was an Executive Member of the Financial Stability Executive Committee of Bank Negara Malaysia (2016 – 2018).
Datuk Johan further extends his counsel as a Board Member of the Capital Market Compensation Fund Corporation by Securities Commission Malaysia, Member of the Board of Directors at the National University of Malaysia (UKM), and as a University Senate Member and Board of Trustee of International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).
Datuk Johan’s professional associations include the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB), where he was a project leader of an accounting standard. He currently serves as a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and a Board Member of the Malaysian Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC).
His professional experience transcends Malaysia to include the USA and Indonesia.
During his tenure at KPMG in Malaysia, he worked on various complex engagement both locally and globally covering various industries/sectors. He had led the only Fortune 500 company in Malaysia, for various corporate exercise. As Managing Partner of KPMG in Malaysia, KPMG has achieved numerous accolades including Asia Risk Awards Risk Management Consulting Firm of the Year 2022, Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Company of the Year Award (2017–2022), Malaysia's 100 Leading Graduate Employers, Graduates’ Choice Awards and many others. In recognition of his Diversity and Inclusion advocacy (ground-breaking KPMG Golden Week), Datuk Johan was presented as the CEO Champion award by Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp).
Outside of his professional commitments, Datuk Johan enjoys social games and outdoor activities such as golf, road trips and brisk walking, and he appreciates a good cup of coffee. He is committed to giving back to the community, including advocating for quality education and promoting Malaysia as an educational hub—particularly in the fields of accounting and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). He introduced KPMG Education Trust Fund (ETF) where partners of KPMG in Malaysia contributed RM5 million to support the Malaysian community at initiatives.
