KPMG Malta launch their 2017 iGaming Summit Report

With great pleasure, KPMG Malta announce the online publication of their 2017 iGaming Summit report. Providing an in-depth account of the event which took place last November, the report encapsulates the key trends, market developments and latest regulatory updates from the world of iGaming. For everyone who attended the eSummit in Malta, and for those who missed it, the report makes essential reading, and is available to view or download here.

Held on the 24th November 2017 as part of SiGMA, the KPMG Malta eSummit attracted over 400 delegates and a host of keynote speakers. The summit’s principal developer is Russell Mifsud, Associate Director of Gaming at KPMG Malta, who also opened the event with a welcome address. Mr Mifsud commented, “KPMG Malta are delighted to be launching our comprehensive iGaming Summit report today. It provides an overview of the day’s sessions and really captures the dynamic and resilient spirit of the iGaming sector. As KPMG Malta continue to service the premier gaming companies in this jurisdiction, we are thrilled to be able to showcase our second annual iGaming summit in this report, sharing our knowledge and key updates with the entire industry.”

A fascinating look at how the media is attempting to re-write gaming regulations, was delivered by industry veteran Warwick Bartlett of GBGC. In addition, a jurisdictional update was provided on the key territory of the Netherlands, which has been going through many changes, and is set to open up its wider market in the very near future. Included in the report is the panel session which covered the latest activity in iGaming Mergers and Acquisitions, and mergers are bound to continue in this flourishing sector.

New to the eSummit was a lively panel session entitled Battle of the Continents, in which territory experts pitted their wits against each other, extolling the merits and market opportunities of Asia, South America and Africa. Women in gaming is a topical theme and Micky Swindale of KPMG Isle of Man rolled out their latest initiative to encourage gender diversity at board level and in the wider workplace, entitled, #WeAllWantToPlay. A thorough examination of current tax structures and their application to gaming was featured in Bits, Bytes and Withholding Taxes, chaired by KPMG’s tax expert Juanita Brockdorff.

General data protection, and the idea of keeping the consumer at the heart of iGaming, is an important and growing theme across the sector. With this in mind, an informative session on the upcoming changes to General Data Protection Regulations was provided. Two of KPMG’s own senior economists, Adam Rivers and Seamus McGowan, gave an insightful presentation on the Economics of Consumer Behaviour and the Gambling sector. Returning this year to host another Masterclass, on the European Regulations for gaming, was the esteemed International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL).

The main purpose of the KPMG Malta summit is to provide a forum for key stakeholders to meet, receive updates on regulatory matters and other news, and openly discuss various topical issues on the subject of iGaming. To read all about it, follow the link below.
