Argentina – Government Extends Buenos Aires Lockdown Again

Argentina – Govt Extends Buenos Aires Lockdown Again

On 20 September 2020, Argentina’s government issued a new extension of the mandatory lockdown for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region that will last until 11 October. This will impact many aspects of daily personal life and business life in the metro region.

On Sunday, 20 September 2020, Argentina’s government published in the Boletín Oficial (the official gazette) the extension of the mandatory lockdown for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region, until 11 October.  (For prior coverage, see GMS Flash Alert 2020-380, 1 September 2020.)

The relaxing of the quarantine in each province remains an internal decision of the governor in conjunction with the national government.

The measures established in the Decree N° 754/2020, may continue to bring stress and frustration for residents of Buenos Aires and individuals interested in or with plans to move into/around/out of the metro region.  This could impact, as well, individuals travelling into and out of Argentina through the Buenos Aires metropolitan region.

Restricting group gatherings, closing borders, people keeping 1.5 meters apart, and confining people to their homes, are measures still in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Remote working is a “new normal” for many globally mobile employees – apart from essential workers – and employers should facilitate this as a way of fostering business continuity and their employee’s safety.

Individuals who are affected by the quarantine extension may wish to consult with their global mobility advisers and immigration legal counsel as soon as possible for advice on next steps.
