Argentina – Updated Travel Restrictions Due to COVID-19
On 15 March, Argentine authorities announced the closing of its borders as of 16 March until 28 March, except for Argentinean nationals who want to come back to Argentina and for residents returning to Argentina. This new measure aims to protect the Argentine population and control and prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

WHY THIS MATTERS
These new travel restrictions will have considerable impact on globally-mobile employees between Argentina and the world. Employees and their families from all over may experience some anxiety and inconvenience.
Travel is now restricted and it is expected that new measurements will arise in the following days. Awareness is vital to help minimize disruptions to operations and to manage associated risks and costs.
Context
The rapid worldwide spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has motivated the Argentinean government to take drastic measurements at controlling the virus in Argentina and preventing its spread in the country.
15 March 2020 New Measures
In a news conference on 15 March, the Argentinean President Alberto Fernandez announced the following measures that will directly impact the extent to which people may freely move about in Argentina or enter or exit Argentina:
- Borders are closed for 15 days as of 16 March until 28 March;
- Individuals over 65 years old must remain in their houses;
- Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and universities are closed for 15 days as of 16 March until 28 March.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Investigations and penalties may result from non-compliance with the new rules.
