The Impact of the General Data Protection Regulation in Portugal

The Impact of the GDPR in Portugal

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has to be adopted by May 2018, but Portuguese organizations are behind in their implementation, according to a KPMG study.

KPMG promoted a study at national level with the objective of assessing the level of awareness and the state of readiness of the Portuguese organizations to face the challenges imposed by the GDPR. We have had the privilege of having more than 100 organizations represented from various sizes and sectors of activity, which gave us a representative picture of the national reality in this matter.

With less than a year to go, the results show that although organizations in Portugal are beginning to assimilate the importance of the new regulation, they still have, in general, a long way to go, not only to be compliant with the GDPR, but also to converge their personal data protection processes with international best practices.
