China tax in the digital age - Issue 1, July 2016
This report is the first in a series of articles, referred to collectively as China tax in the digital age, that examines the existing and emerging tax implications of doing business in China’s digital economy.
The growth of China’s digital economy and the emergence of many new business models as a result has triggered a wave of new and complex tax issues for companies operating in practically all sectors of the economy.
This report aims to provide an overview of how China’s digital economy is reshaping commerce and with it tax policy. It also aims to explain in depth the key tax issues affecting businesses operating in China, namely nexus, characterisation and data value/creation.
