This paper endeavors to unravel the current scenario of undergraduate medical education in India, whilst also analysing its course structure and learning methods vis-à-vis leading global medical education systems. This paper also recommends other policy level interventions and reforms aimed at increasing the overall ease of setting up and operationalising medical colleges by private sector to bridge the persistent gap in demand and supply of doctors in the country.
