Group health insurance penetration in MSMEs
Increasing healthcare cover penetration among MSMEs in India.
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) are key contributors to the Indian economy both in terms of output and employment. The MSMEs are key drivers to the sustenance of the Indian growth story and welfare of the workforce employed in this sector is a major lever for the same. KPMG in India along with FICCI conducted a nationwide survey to understand the key healthcare needs and drivers for increasing healthcare coverage in this sector. The survey conducted across 219 MSME units revealed that healthcare coverage in terms of group health penetration is approximately 31% among MSMEs whereas the number is approximately 85% for large corporates. KPMG in India has analyzed in detail the current needs and the gaps in the market which needs to be addresses and has recommended a concerted and collective effort by all the key stakeholders - the Government, the Insurance Regulator and the Insurance Industry to ensure increase in group health insurance penetration.
