Dr James Fitton is a climate risk scientist with 10+ years’ experience working in the area of climate change risk and adaptation, spatial analysis and earth observation.

James previously led the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Research Group at the SFI-Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine (MaREI) in University College Cork (UCC), where he managed the development and delivery of Climate Ireland, Irelands national climate adaptation platform, and supported the development of the Local Authority Climate Action Plan guidance and semi-quantitative risk assessment methods for the Climate Action Regional Offices.

At UCC, James was part of the Met Éireann TRANSLATE project, which aimed to standardise future climate projections for Ireland and develop climate services that meet the climate information needs of decision makers. James has authored academic articles in internationally recognised journals and has been cited within IPCC Assessment Report 6.
