What will I do in KPMG?

Thinking about a career in accountancy and professional services? Work with Ireland's #1 Professional Services firm and the leading firm to Irish Top 1,000 companies.

Our Work Placement Programme offers you a fantastic opportunity to discover at first-hand what it is like to work at KPMG and find out about the range of services that we provide for our clients.

We are the market leader in the areas of technology, financial services, property, manufacturing and distribution. Your Placement at KPMG aims to prepare you for your career and give you an understanding of our business, our clients, our people and our culture.

What is working in Audit like?

“The main objective of the Audit department in KPMG is to ensure that the financial statements of their clients are a fair reflection of their financial performance. These can be PLCs or limited companies. KPMG also offers audit support for charities.

Working as a part of Audit as a Placement is greatly rewarding and interesting. My day to day role in the Audit department included contacting banks, meetings with clients, and testing controls. On my Placement, I worked on large but very different Multi-National Companies nearly every week, and found that every company can differ. As an Audit Placement, you are assigned to a team – for each client job, I travelled to client site with members of my team. This gives all Placements a big opportunity to gain exposure, not only to accounting, but to the differences in companies across different industries.

Placements are given the opportunity to show their capabilities in many ways. They are assigned their own client work to carry out and a deadline. This made me feel very comfortable, as I was included in all discussions.”

What training and support will I get?

At KPMG, we understand that the transition from college to working life can be daunting.
We support all of our Placements through:

  • A dedicated Performance Manager
  • A Buddy System
  • ‘Aspire & Ignite’ Development Programme

The support provided by the KPMG Business School and the ‘Aspire & Ignite’ Development  Programme will be exemplary right from the beginning of your time here.

Your first day will involve induction training, where you will get an insight into the different  departments, get your laptop set up, get information on all the extra-curricular activities that you  can get involved in - and most importantly get to know everyone in your Placement Programme group. The induction training is a great way to gradually get you ready for office life. Following  on from this you will have IT virtual training and e-learnings, which allow you to become  confident and familiar with the IT systems in KPMG.

The training and support does not end here. In KPMG, Placements have training sessions  monthly, normally on Friday afternoons. These involve team building skills, nutritional talks,  and development days where you’re supported in your integration into the working world. This  training is fun and light-hearted, and is sure to make you laugh on a Friday afternoon

Life @ KPMG

On Placement, there are a number of activities that are organised. The ‘Konnect Committee’ is a committee of Placements in charge of organising events for us. As a part of our Placement we went on a weekend to Galway, had a boat party, and many more. We also attended St. Michael’s House as a part of our Corporate Citizenship day. It was a greatly rewarding day, in which we gardened and helped remove any rubbish for the charity.

I’ve gained so much from my Placement. It has been a massive opportunity that I am grateful for. It has opened my eyes to the working world, and KPMG is a fantastic place to start working life. The support you are given, along with the friends you make, are incomparable. Everything I have learned is not only applicable to working life, but life in general. The core values and ethics you learn, you carry with you wherever you go.
