The National Honours and Awards Ceremony
On 14 March 2023, KPMG in Ghana was recognized at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony for remarkable and selfless service in the fight to contain the Covid-19 virus. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the President, Nana Addo Akuffo-Addo, Vice-President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei Opare and others.
This ceremony was organised by H. E. the President of the Republic of Ghana to recognise distinguished individuals and deserving institutions for the various roles they played during the Covid-19 pandemic.
KPMG received a special award of recognition for work done on the Private Sector Covid-19 Fund during the pandemic. The firm was recognized alongside other faith based and private sector institutions. In addition to the award given to the firm, the following individuals received personal recognition for their meritorious service to the nation:
- Kwame Sarpong Barnieh
- Gordon Dardey
- Nathaniel Adjin-Tettey
- Joseph Eshun-Rhule.
The firm volunteered staff on a pro bono basis to work on a number of key projects during and after the Covid-19 lock down period. These projects included:
- Feed the Kayayo: This project involved distributing hot meals during the lock down period to the poor and homeless.
- Feed the Frontline Team: This involved providing accounting support on disbursement of meal coupons to frontline workers.
- National Trust Fund: This entailed providing organizational set up and administrative support for a national fund-raising initiative to fight the Covid-19 virus.
- The construction of the 1st Infectious Disease Centre in Ghana: During this initiative, KPMG provided technical advice and support to ensure accountability and transparency.
In response to receiving the award on behalf of the firm, Anthony Sarpong said “KPMG is happy to have been recognized for our selfless acts of service at a time when Ghana needed individuals and firms to take initiatives to help the country contain the virus. We will continue to find ways to support our nation and its citizens through the work we do and the projects we take up, as this is core to our values. We believe that as we find new initiatives to support our community, we can work together for a better Ghana”.
