KPMG Global Cyber Day 2022

Global Cyber Day is a unique KPMG initiative that coincides with International Cyber Awareness month in October.  The program enables us to build trust in our local communities by empowering young people to make better choices online. It supports KPMG's commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 to help ensure inclusive and equitable education for all.  Along with contributing to the Global Firm's IMPACT goal to help improve the social mobility of 10M disadvantaged young people by 2030.

This year KPMG Ghana participated in this initiative alongside several KPMG member firms including KPMG Argentina, France, South Korea, India, Nigeria, South Africa and USA amongst others.  The Cyber Day initiative enabled us to go beyond the corporate world and share knowledge with young children, teenagers and teachers in our community. The primary objective of this initiative was to educate the youth on the importance of cyber security and to empower them to create a trusted digital world.

We delivered presentations to over 1,000 students across various schools within Accra - namely: Soronko Academy, East Airport International School, Roman Ridge School, Eunicharles International School, American International School, Abelenkpe Basic School, Golden Age School and Victoria Grammar School.  The KPMG Cyber Day Presenters gave presentations to the students on safe use of social media, online identity protection, cyber bullying, online gaming and cyber threats. The students expressed their concerns and personal experiences with cyberattacks and cyber bullying amongst other online interactions they encountered.  They also shared their thoughts on cyber security and what they felt the biggest threats online were, whilst taking away key learnings on how to stay safe on the internet. 

Overall, it was a great success, the schools commended the firm for their commitment and knowledge sharing.  Special thanks to the Cyber Day presenters, the Cyber Day Team and everyone that helped make this year's Cyber Day a success!  We are looking forward to next years' Global Cyber Day!
