Our Global Network
The name KPMG originates from the initials of four pioneering accountants whose firms came together to form the global organization known today as KPMG. The letter K stands for Piet Klynveld, who founded his accounting firm in the Netherlands in 1917. The letter P represents William Barclay Peat, who established his practice in the United Kingdom in 1870. The M refers to James Marwick, co-founder of Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in the United States in 1897. Finally, the G honors Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler, a distinguished German accountant who played a pivotal role in bringing these firms together under one global network during the 1980s and became the first chairman of KPMG International.
