KPMG Isle of Man launch online relocation hub
KPMG in the Isle of Man has launched an online relocation hub to aid those looking to relocate to the Isle of Man.
KPMG in the Isle of Man has launched an online relocation hub to aid those looking to relocate to the Isle of Man. The online hub includes local KPMG tax insights and considerations for relocating to the Isle of Man, as well as links to locate.im, various business networks and flexible working spaces.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw a huge increase in the volume of visitors to pages on our website which focused on relocation to the Isle of Man. When we explored the statistics further, these visitors were coming from the UK but also from around the world”, said Simon Nicholas, Partner at the Isle of Man firm. “As lockdown eased, these website visits turned into enquiries and we were addressing the same questions and pointing people to the same external resources, and the relocation hub was born from that. It made sense to centralise our resources, as well as collating resources from external parties, so people can make an informed decision when looking to make the move.”
Similar to their COVID-19 resource centre that was launched in April, KPMG in the Isle of Man aim to make the online resource a place of reference for those who are interested in relocating or have contacts, clients and/or friends looking to relocate and something that can benefit everybody.
Off-island interest in the Isle of Man has been high throughout lockdown, due to the island’s ability to shut borders and maintain over 100 days without a coronavirus case, along with a growing number of high-profile articles promoting the Isle of Man’s enviable work / life balance. With all the lifestyle benefits the Isle of Man can offer, it is important to ensure you have exited your current country of residence correctly to ensure that you aren’t hit with an unexpected tax bill.
“As the enquiries have been coming in, ranging from UK contractors looking to work remotely over here through to those looking to relocate their business, we have been talking to people about commencing residence in the Isle of Man but also the importance of ceasing residency in their home country”, said Justine Howard, Senior Tax Manager at KPMG in the Isle of Man. “To assist with that, we are launching a series of podcasts later this month which will cover some of the key issues to consider when relocating to the Isle of Man from the UK and we plan to also release a series of country specific relocation webinars, with colleagues from within our KPMG network, in the near future.”
Minister for Enterprise, Laurence Skelly MHK, welcomed the launch of the portal, “Pre-COVID the island was increasingly being recognised as an attractive place to live, work and invest, especially for entrepreneurs, professionals and skilled individuals. Government’s response to the pandemic, focus on allowing our economy to open back up, and safety and security that we offer, has brought renewed interest in people locating to the island”.
“As a result, the Locate Isle of Man team have seen a notable increase in traffic and relocation enquiries– it is excellent to hear this experience mirrors that of KPMG and that this dedicated portal is in place to provide practical advice and assistance to individuals considering a relocation.”
