KPMG Academy Cyprus has teamed up with KPMG Learning Academy (Malta) to co-host the webinar  “Microsoft Excel for Professionals: An Introduction to Formulas and Functionalities” . 

The course delves into the various formulas and functionalities of Microsoft Excel through an interactive hands-on workshop. Participants will be introduced to the application as well as the use of formulas and functions, which provide the basis for spreadsheet model building in a business context.

This is a highly useful webinar which will be delivered by a practitioner with extensive experience in the field. Given the practical nature of the course and in order to ensure that participants will gain the best possible understanding , the seats available for this interactive webinar are limited. Webinar's goals

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and apply the most appropriate and effective Excel formulas and functionalities in order to address specific action and requirements,
  • Apply the new skills to deliver Excel-related work in a more proficient manner,
  • Use the Lookup functions easily and perform various logical functions as well as more advanced formatting functions, 
  • Develop different methods of analysing and working with data as well as presenting data using tables and charts


The training is addressed to professionals whose role requires the frequent use of Microsoft Excel, such as financial controllers, accounts clerks, etc.

Pre-Requisites:  A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is recommended. 

Participants are required to use laptops (instead of other devices) for more convenience and arrange the Microsoft Excel to be installed on them prior to the webinar's date.



Sessions (10:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. including a 15-min break between sessions)

  • Data formatting: including conditional formatting and the use of data styles
  • Date-related Functions: EoMonth, EDate, YearFrac
  • Increasing effectiveness of working with data through the use of Lookup Functions: VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, Match, Index, Choose
  • Using formulas and logical functions: Min, Max, Med, Average, Sum, Sumif, Sumifs, Sumproduct, Count, CountIf, Subtotal, and other logical functions (IF, OR, AND, NOT)
  • Data analysis and handling: using Pivot Tables, Data Filters, Data Sorting, Charts

Samuel Fenech
Manager, Deal Advisory Services, KPMG in Malta

Samuel is a Manager at KPMG forming part of the firm’s dynamic Deal Advisory team, which is regularly called up upon for its extensive knowledge and experience in the valuation of assets, real estate and financial instruments, all of which require extensive knowledge of MS Excel. He has amassed significant experience in working with MS Excel through his participation in various engagements including the performance of financial modelling engagements, valuations covering equity interests, real estate, financial instruments, impairment assessments as well as buy-side due diligence engagements. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Malta. He is also a member of the Malta Institute for Accountants.
