Managing the risk of regulatory inquiries and short seller attacks for listed companies

In recent years, KPMG noted that a considerable number of listed companies (particularly those listed in the U.S. and Hong Kong SAR) have encountered a variety of challenges (e.g., short seller attacks, delayed annual filings, inadequate public disclosure, etc.), some of which have resulted in significant drops in share prices or even suspension of stock trading. Regulators often instigate inquiries following these incidents and request that companies launch and fully cooperate with internal investigations. Most companies understand the importance of addressing these issues in a timely manner, but many lack practical experience in handling the processes efficiently.
