Canadian importers of goods from Ukraine may benefit from recent temporary trade relief measures. Canada has granted relief of customs duties under the Customs Tariff and the Special Import Measures Act for goods that originate in Ukraine for one year, until June 9, 2023. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has recently provided guidance on the new remission order, including:
- The meaning of "goods that originate in Ukraine"
- How to apply for the relief under the remission order
- How to request refunds of overpaid amounts for past imports subject to the remission order.
Importers must make claims for remission within two years of the importation date, among other rules.
