The zone of the unknown continues: Governing in challenging times – Part II

In this webcast, our panel of economic and insolvency professionals along with KPMG’s Board Leadership Centre co-chairs, shared insights on how boards can effectively govern and lead in times of uncertainty, especially as the economy continues to signify a potential downturn.

The discussion began with setting the stage of the economic climate across the globe and where there may be opportunities for boards and management teams to focus their priorities. While we still may be “in the zone of the unknown” from an economic standpoint, there are key responsibilities boards have to deliver the overall strategic outlook perspective for their management teams. Instead of focusing on a long-term approach, think short-term. Take a practical approach to business and be conservative until the uptick hits and you make it through the wave. There are also many opportunities for boards to consider as we look ahead to the next few quarters:

• With any surplus of profit, consider investing in technology that will help your company weather the storm
• There is a value play for those seeking M&A growth in this current market
• Canada is a strong and safe ally with stable and practical courts, which can be a likely investment source for other countries
