KPMG in Canada

Spil joined KPMG in Canada in 2022 to lead Calgary’s Corporate Finance practice. With over 25 years’ experience, his career has encompassed mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, buyouts, capital raising, strategic planning and business strategy, working with mid-sized and large multinational corporations, predominately in the energy sector.

After graduating from the University of Toronto, Spil’s first professional experience came in financial services, working with both investment and corporate/commercial banking for one of Canada’s large financial institutions. Expanding on his experience, he joined a small boutique investment banking firm in Calgary, focusing on mid-market advisory services for clients mainly in the energy sector. Shortly thereafter, he worked in a large multi-national advisory firm, continuing to focus on mid-market advisory services. Over the course of 15 years, he advised on transactions with an aggregate market value in excess of $5 billion. In 2016, Spil joined a market leading public infrastructure business where he was responsible for leading the Company’s corporate development function. Whilst at the Company, Spil led multiple merger and acquisition assignments with a combined market value of over $3 billion.

Spil takes great pride in advising and helping clients transition their businesses for succession and/or growth. Most importantly, he strives to become a trusted financial advisor to clients and continues to maintain relationships with numerous customers whom he has advised over the years. These values took root at an early age, being central to the family real estate business founded by his father over 60 years ago. Today, Spil continues to help grow the business, alongside his brother.
