Delivery & Data Excellence
Careers for graduates: learn how to help clients achieve greater efficiency, control and visibility over their tax compliance.
Learn how to help clients gain visibility of their compliance obligations.
In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?
The Delivery & Data Excellence (DDX) team is a specialist area within Tax. Our services are specifically designed to help our clients achieve cost-efficiencies and gain better process control and visibility of their compliance obligations.
DDX provides compliance and associated services to clients of all Australian offices, assisting them with their tax compliance (for corporates – corporate taxation, GST, and fringe benefits tax, and individuals – trust, superfunds and partnerships), financial statement preparation, immigration services and payroll. Tax compliance mainly involves considering tax legislation, preparing tax calculations and completing tax returns in an automated and efficient way, using data analytics and other technology.
What does the average day look like?
There is no average day in DDX – you will work closely with our clients and colleagues in a variety of forms. Some days you’ll be based at the client site working on a project or on a call with a client overseas to get information you need to work on a deliverable. Other days are spent working in the office on client engagements, in team meetings, finalising deliverables, supporting internal projects, completing proposals or participating in training.
You may work on two or three different clients each day. When you have a big project on, you may work on only one client for an extended period. You could be working by yourself preparing a tax calculation or visa application, or working as part of a team on a complex client engagement, with guidance from a manager, director or partner.
What will I learn in the first year?
In your first year, you will expand on the skills you have learned at university, but you’ll also learn plenty of new skills. You’ll learn about DDX’s service offerings, how KPMG operates and the basics (tax, accounting, technology, etc) for your specialist area. You’ll also learn about the different technologies and processes we use to deliver our work and other skills such as project management and how to present. You’ll be allocated clients to help with providing services. As you learn more and become more confident, you’ll also be able to take more ownership of driving the client engagement. You will get to experience a variety of client work. To help you with this, the DDX learning team provides structured training throughout your first year, complemented by on-the-job training and the wider KPMG learning program.
What’s the best part of the role?
The culture of the team and people you meet and work with in DDX are definitely the best part of the role. They are smart, driven, interesting people that genuinely care about your development. Our leaders are passionate and engaging. Helping our clients is engaging and rewarding. The variety of work available and the innovative approach to our work and the tools we provide to our clients make it a great place to work.
