In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?
KPMG Strategy is part of a global network of strategy professionals that helps governments, corporates and investors change, grow, adapt, shape and respond to disruptive market forces. We support these organisations to define their future ambitions and to develop innovative strategies that embed the agility, customer-centricity and operational excellence needed to thrive in dynamic markets. We work shoulder to shoulder with clients through implementation and help to deliver a step change in performance by accelerating momentum, unlocking value and de-risking strategic decisions and actions.
Our services include:
- Enterprise Wide Strategy – Helping organisations shape their futures by developing corporate strategies, undertaking portfolio reviews and defining business transformation strategies.
- Growth Strategy – Helping organisations to define their organic and inorganic growth strategies, considering new and existing markets, products / services, customer channels etc.
- Operating Strategy & Cost – Helping clients to identify, quantify, prioritise and realise a step change in financial and operational performance looking at both revenue and cost levers. This includes designing new operating models to help clients better realise their financial targets and strategic objectives, delivering rapid improvement in performance and value.
- Deal Strategy – Advising companies on strategic investment decisions, divestment and partnerships, commercial and operational due diligence, synergies, integration and separation, and value creation.
What does the average day look like?
Every day is different! The work varies with every project and client, but typical tasks that an Analyst may perform includes: market research, financial analysis, attending client meetings, assisting with client workshops, writing reports, developing proposals and in general, supporting the broader client engagement team.
KPMG Strategy plays an important role in defining, developing and implementing methodology for our clients most complex problems. We do this by bringing together multiple areas of expertise from across KPMG both nationally and internationally. As a consequence, you will often work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, building your internal networks and continually being challenged by and learning from others.
What will I learn in the first year?
You will learn a combination of:
- Technical skills: company and industry market research, insight development, business report writing, business development (development of proposals), financial, commercial and strategic analysis.
- Soft skills: working and collaborating in teams, communication, problem structuring and hypothesis driven methodology, time management, stakeholder management, presentation skills and refining your overall professionalism.
