Grad careers: People & Change

In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?

The People & Change (P&C) team is part of the Enterprise Transformation group and navigates client complexities to build capability and improve service delivery for our client communities. Our services cover Enterprise Transformational and Behavioural Change, Culture, Leadership, Learning & Development (including training), Workplace Relations, Organisational Design, Corporate Affairs Advisory and Workforce Shaping. The People and Change team bring our clients the contemporary and professional people and organisational system components to transform as well as connect external reputation with internal culture.

The P&C team is welcoming and open. The national team is well connected and the challenges of clients and opportunities to collaborate with our colleagues are well understood. The team culture is inclusive and engaging. Our people are collaborative in approach, supportive and willing to help each other. Our leaders are passionate and committed to supporting our people to grow and work with purpose. And they care about the development of others. They ensure that we support our people and clients and deliver the best for them.

What does the average day look like?

There is no average day – you work shoulder to shoulder with our clients and colleagues in a variety of forms. We do our work from three main hubs – a client hub, an office hub and a home hub. Some days you’ll be based at the client site in large multifunctional teams, working to build better people solutions. Other days are spent working in the office on client engagements, in team meetings, finalising deliverables, supporting internal projects, completing proposals or participating in training. And sometimes we are most productive when working from home, leverage technology to connect with our clients and team.

When you have a big project on, longer hours may be required to meet client expectations however, KPMG’s Agile working policy means that there is scope for flexibility in how, when and where you complete your deliverables. You’re provided with the flexibility to manage your work and personal commitments.

What will I learn in the first year?

In your first year, you’ll expand on the skills you have learned at university, but you’ll also learn plenty of new skills. As you grow your experience, you’ll develop a strong foundation of behavioural change management skills and facilitation skills. You’ll develop knowledge of different industries and learn presentation skills. You’ll also learn how to develop a trusting relationship with the client and to work closely within your project team to ensure key deliverables are met. A big focus of your learning will be on building your knowledge of what we do, developing client relationships and developing the practical business skills that compliment your tertiary education. As your career progresses, you will get deeper skills in specific areas, while maintaining strong foundational skills across the broader work of People & Change. You will also develop business and general consulting skills, relevant to all consulting work.

What’s the best part of the role?

The people you meet and work with at KPMG is definitely the best part of the role. They are smart, driven, interesting people that genuinely care about your development. You’ll be provided with constant feedback and mentorship to help your development and given autonomy to produce your best work. The variety of work available and the culture of the team make it a great place to work.
