Your career choices: Enterprise Advisory

In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?

The Enterprise Advisory team navigate client complexities to build capabilities and improve service delivery for our client communities. Offering specialist capability that advises the mid-market in the areas of strategy, business improvement, risk and technology. This is an emerging segment for the firm and we are evolving our service offerings in response to this development opportunity.

The nature of the work we do often means we are lucky enough to see the immediate impact of our work. This leads to a different, and more enduring, type of relationship with our clients, which is centred on KPMG’s client for life approach. The variety of this segment and the pace at which it operates is very exciting.

What does the average day look like?

There is no average day – you expect to work shoulder to shoulder with our clients and colleagues in a variety of forms. Some days you’ll be based at the client site in multifunctional teams, working to build better technology, people or process solutions. Other days are spent working in the office on client engagements, in team meetings, finalising deliverables, supporting internal projects, completing proposals or participating in training.

When you have a big project on, longer hours may be required to meet client expectations however, KPMG’s agile working policy means that there is scope for flexibility in how, when and where you complete your deliverables. You’re provided with the flexibility to manage your work and personal commitments.

What will I learn in the first year?

In your first year, you’ll expand on the skills you have learned at university, but you’ll also learn plenty of new skills. As you grow your experience, you’ll develop a strong foundation of core management consulting skills as well as develop your emotional intelligence, relationship, negotiation and problem solving skills through client interactions.

What’s the best part of the role?

The people you meet and work with at KPMG is definitely the best part of the role. They are smart, driven, interesting people that genuinely care about your development. You’ll be provided with constant feedback and mentorship to help your development and given autonomy to produce your best work. The variety of work available and the culture of the team make it a great place to work. The Enterprise Advisory team is welcoming and open. The national team is well connected and the challenges of clients and colleagues are well understood. The team culture is inclusive and engaging. Our people are collaborative in approach, supportive and willing to help each other. Our leaders are passionate and engaging. And they care about the development of others. They ensure that we support our people and clients and deliver the best for them.
