Customer expectations drive the future of IT
Business and technology executives are increasingly fascinated and obsessed with technologies that are designed to automate and drive faster speed to market. Many, however, are finding that this alone is rarely a cure-all. Rather, it is customer demands that are increasingly driving the future of the modern IT delivery model and becoming the foundation for the connected enterprise.
Speed in IT should be less about performing the “basics” faster, and more about the pace of delivering innovation to improve customer experiences and harness the learnings from failing fast and failing small. It means aligning the culture, tools, structure, governance, and processes to experiment with the least amount of risk and effort to meaningfully move the value needle.
Of those surveyed, who said rapid software delivery was important, 65% noted that changing customer expectations were the driving force. Such demands will increasingly drive the future of the modern IT delivery model and become the foundation for the connected enterprise.1
In achieving modern delivery, the often disconnected elements - agile, DevOps, cloud, native architecture, testing, security, risk management, and compliance - are assembled into a unified model. Such an alignment and focus creates speed, reduces risk, and enhances quality across the entire organization to rapidly and continuously deliver value.
This next generation of technology is likely to be developed and deployed across the enterprise, not just within the IT department, as a fully connected enterprise requires collaboration and a new way of working. This will change the entire organization.
The success of modern delivery will be measured by how effectively the connected enterprise can continuously reassemble technical components, adapt ways of working, and build technical capabilities that map to specific customer objectives and key results.
