Elis Prendergast is an Information Reporting, and Withholding specialist focused on a series of regimes governing the reporting of certain information to various tax authorities around the world or imposing tax withholding at source.
Elis has considerable experience advising on issues arising out of Internal Revenue Code chapters 3, 4 and 61, the U.S. provisions commonly known as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), various Tax Information Exchange Agreements entered into by the United States, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information in Tax Matters (commonly referred to as the Common Reporting Standard, or CRS).
Elis is known for combining operational considerations and tax technical knowledge into sound, practical, and relevant advice on operational tax matters.
Elis is a frequent speaker at industry events, such as Thompson Reuter's SYNERGY conference and the Institute of Financial Operation's Southeast Regional Forum.
Prior to joining KPMG, Elis was at a global custodian, The Bank of New York Mellon, where he assisted in developing and implementing operational tax solutions and creating preventative measures for mitigating withholding related business risk.
Elis has a JD degree from Seton Hall Law School and a BS degree from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.
