Carlos is the Tax partner in charge of the KPMG San Juan Puerto Rico Tax Practice. He has more than 26 years of experience, the last 18 as a partner of KPMG, providing Puerto Rico and US tax services, particularly tax planning, tax controversy services, tax compliance, due diligence and assistance with accounting for income taxes.
Professional and Industry Experience
- In his role as tax partner, Carlos is responsible for the delivery of Puerto Rico and U.S. federal tax services to numerous clients. These services include, among others, tax compliance, tax planning, assistance with governmental agencies audits, and assistance with the structuring, and tax due diligence pertaining to merges and acquisitions as well as assistance with the requests and management of tax exemption decrees. He has extensive experience in the merger and acquisition area assisting entities in the design and implementation of tax efficient structures. He has performed tax DD over the years in many industries, including; 1) Financial Services; 2) Technology, including software; 3) energy; and 4) infrastructure projects, among other. He also has extensive experience in the preparation and review of tax accruals following the provisions of ASC 740 and ASC 740-10 and including tax accruals of SEC filers. Carlos devotes most of his time to telecom and financial services clients and working in mergers and acquisitions engagements.

- Carlos has worked in most of the recent transactions leading to the consolidation of the Banking Industry in Puerto Rico, including the FDIC assisted acquisitions. He has also been involved over the last 18 years with the review and/or preparation of quarterly tax provisions of SEC filers.
