Karen Mitchell Curran joined the KPMG Miami Office in 1987. Karen is currently an Audit Partner and Office Managing Partner of the Fort Lauderdale Office. She is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the KPMG Fort Lauderdale office. She oversees the market activities of more than 150 partners and professionals and also serves numerous clients.
Karen’s primary focus is serving clients in the healthcare industry. With more than 35 years of experience serving a variety of healthcare entities. Karen served as the lead partner on several multihospital health systems, including one of the nation’s largest public hospitals. She has also served as the lead partner on a variety of healthcare organizations including private-equity owned organizations, focusing on issues including recapitalizations, debt restructurings, purchase accounting, goodwill impairment, and stock-based compensation.
Karen is an advocate for women and co-founded the KPMG Network of Women’s South Florida Chapter (KNOW), to foster personal and professional growth for the firm’s professional women. She is a frequent speaker at women’s symposiums and was recognized as an honoree of the South Florida Business Journals’ Women Who Mean Business as well as the Boys and Girls Club 100 Outstanding Women of Broward County, Florida. Karen currently serves as the Chairman of the Board and Lead Director of Women Corporate Directors Education and Development Foundation. Inc., a global membership organization and community of women corporate directors with multiple chapters around the world; and is a member of the South Florida Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership Group.
Karen has been a member of the FICPA and AICPA since 1988.
